Visit Bryce Canyon in 24 hours

Bryce Canyon National Park is characterized by its vast amphitheatre filled with rocky spires called "Hoodoos" or "fairy chimneys".

These pillars, formed by erosion, create a landscape that is absolutely unique. Even the best photos can't capture the sights that await you here!

Morning activities in Bryce Canyon

#1. PARKING AND SHUTTLE

As the park is an extremely popular tourist destination, the use of the free shuttle service (May to October) is recommended (but not obligatory) to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road.

Park your vehicle at the shuttle station north of the park. You can pay the park entrance fee here, and then use the shuttle service for free.

The shuttle runs in one direction only, every 15 minutes. It is possible to board at any stop. 

#2. VISITOR CENTER 

Get off first at the Visitor Centre.

Here you will find a host of practical information to help plan your visit (brochures, maps, weather forecasts, schedules, etc.).

You can also look at the permanent exhibits, watch a short introductory film and browse the bookstore. That way you can learn more about the unique geology of Bryce Canyon.  

#3. BRYCE POINT 

Next, take the shuttle to Bryce Point, one of the most impressive scenic overlooks in the park. 

At an altitude of more than 2,529 metres, this viewpoint is the most southernmost in the park and offers spectacular views of the amphitheatre to the north.

#4. RIM TRAIL 

Head for the next point of interest on foot along the Rim Trail, a hiking trail that follows the edge of the amphitheatre. 

Plan on spending about 50 minutes walking the 2.5 km at a relaxed pace. 

If you don't want to walk, you can board the shuttle at Bryce Point, but it would be a shame to miss the spectacular views along the trail. 

#5. INSPIRATION POINT

Once you reach Inspiration Point, you will have a close-up view of the park's famous rocky formations.

#6. SUNSET POINT 

Next, take the shuttle to Sunset Point, another magnificent viewpoint over the canyon. 

#7. NAVAJO LOOP AND QUEEN’S GARDEN TRAIL 

It's time to stretch your legs and head down into the heart of the amphitheatre.

Navajo Loop and Queen’s Garden Trail are two different trails that intersect. The best way to explore the hoodoos is by combining these two trails. 

You'll feel like you're on a different planet!

The hike begins with the Navajo Loop Trail. On leaving Sunset Point, you will quickly make your way down into the canyon via a series of tight switchbacks. 

You will then pass through a very narrow section known as Wall Street.  

About halfway around the loop, you will reach the junction with the Queen’s Garden Trail. 

The Queen's Garden Trail winds its way through the rocky spires to your last viewpoint of the day, Sunrise Point. 

Allow 3 hours to walk the 5 km distance. The trail is not very difficult, but be sure to bring plenty of water.

#8. SUNRISE POINT 

Your last stop is Sunrise Point, another overlook offering beautiful panoramic views. 

From here, catch the shuttle back to your vehicle. 

If you still have energy, head back to Sunset Point to watch the sunset. 

Bryce Point is another great option from which to watch the changing colours of the canyon at nightfall. 

Be aware that the shuttle service ends at 6 p.m. during low season, and at 8 p.m. during high season. You can also reach these viewpoints by car. 

Where to eat when visiting Bryce Canyon?

The easiest and most enjoyable way to enjoy the park is to pack a picnic, which you can eat at your leisure, surrounded by nature.
